Bought these as knock around radios for the kids so they didn’t need to play with my nicer Motorola talkabouts. For the price these are excellent radios. They have been tested out to just under 1 mile over water (opposite sides of the local lake). The included batteries are kind of like the inkjet cartridges you get with your printer… just enough juice for you to test the product, but not enough for real work. Don’t head into the field on the included batteries! A buddy and I hiked into a high mountain lake to fly fish with these radios and they were great for us to brag “fish on” when we were too far apart to see each other. At $10 each they were a guilt free purchase, even knowing they won’t see daily use. Very happy with the quality and performance at this price point.

I bought a pair to see how they would work for a local communications net and they were great! Sure, they lack a lot of the fancy bells and whistles but they have range and clarity that some of the other hand-held radios in the net lacked. Some of the other members were so impressed, they wanted to know where they could get some. I’m buying some more now before these babies sell out, again!
Good, basic communication option. Fairly long range, easy to use, batteries included, and good price. What’s not to love?

I’ve been a longtime Ham Radio, shortwave, and scanner enthusiast, and have owned many many handheld transceivers throughout the years, including 5 pairs of GMRS/FRS radios. I’ve owned this set now for a few months, and they work better than more expensive sets I own. The radios are VERY intuitive and easy to use, and have excellent receiver sensitivity and Xmit range. Ergonomically, they feel very good in your hand, and have decent battery life. A steal at the current price!

These work really well. Although I have not tested them over more than my house, they provide clear, constant communication over a long battery life. The ‘roger bleep’ avoids the need to say ‘over’ when you have finished speaking, and they are far better than most toy walkie talkies. My seven year old has had hours of fun with these and I am so glad we did not buy child-branded radios.

Great, little radios. Tough, mine are used on a highrise construction site and are working fine. I will buy more.

These walkie talkies do everything I need. Bought them for the kids who were always disappointed by the garbage toy ones sold in stores. Those were unable to transmit clear sound from any distance. For a few bucks more, I got these which work amazingly well. No interference. Clear transmission. Easy to use. I’ve only tested these as far as 1/4 mile away because that’s why we bought them. But there was no issue at all and I could see them going much further. Only problem was the AAA batteries going dead after what seemed like a few hours of constant use. But I guess that’s to be expected from 3 AAA batteries. I would rather put in 3 more or buy rechargeables than have some more expensive battery type. I would highly reccomend these as they work very well and are so inexpensive.

I ordered these for a camp, in order for the adults to be able to instantly communicate with each other, as some of the cellphones would not work well, due to various carriers not having service in that area. These radios worked out great. I realized that I needed more and I have since ordered more for next years camp. Every adult decided they needed to have one. This new enhancement has taken our camp to a higher level. The sound is crisp and clear. The range of them is excellent for our needs. It has a range of up to 12 miles, but we only needed like 2 miles. It has many channels to select from. I have no complaints whatsoever. I took extra batteries and was prepared to switch them out every other day. No big deal for me. The value of them and the use of them outweighed the need to switch out batteries.

I purchased them as a gift for my elderly relatives (a husband and wife). The husband does not hear well, so this was perfect for the wife, who is bedridden to speak to husband when she needed him. It works out in the neighborhood when he is walking the dog and even in town when he is shopping. Very clear for both of them to hear each other. BEST of all, them managed to figure out how to use them right away.

After reading all the reviews for kids walkie talkies, I decided to try these since they got much better reviews. They are awesome! My son loves them. They are small enough for his little hands (he is 4) & not too small for ours. We live in a bldg where the walls are concrete, but we tested them throughout the place as well as one up in the apartment & the other down in the parking garage – still worked! We have not tested them for super long distances, miles. These are so well priced, you can buy them for your kids & actually have them work, as compared to normal kids walkie talkies!!!! 🙂

This is the third and fourth pair of Uniden walkie-talkies I’ve purchased. I take care of my 91-year-old mother and the Unidens have provided critical communication on several occasions, particularly when I’ve been working outside or walking our dogs. We have used this type of Uniden walkie-talkie for more than 6 years.
First and foremost, they are small and light and the only walkie-talkies Mom can hold and operate (she is a small lady with tiny hands.) We started with the 3-mile range, then the 5-mile, and now the 12-mile as Uniden changed design. Each model has been satisfactory within the neighborhood, but because of the lack of line-of-sight areas I haven’t been able to test Uniden’s 12-mile claim under ideal conditions. However, expect the range to be significantly less than claimed if there is anything between the units, particularly solid things like terrain and buildings.
Battery life is important and the 12-mile units use somewhat more power than the shorter range models did. However, after much trial and error, I have found that RayOVac NiMH Hybrid and 4.0 rechargeable batteries will provide more than 24 hours of operation, including a modest amount of transmitting (which uses more battery power.) NO other batteries, even DieHard and Energizer NiMH rechargeables, operate the units for 24 or more hours. I think I read somewhere in the enclosed literature that Uniden rates the running time as 22 hours on regular alkaline batteries. Using recharageable AAA batteries saves a LOT of money (we use these 24/7/365) and once-a-day battery change is very convenient.
CONS: Only real problem is that the belt clip is designed with two small plastic tabs that can break off if the unit gets caught on something. I also had one unit that had an intermittent squelch problem but all the other units we’ve had have operated perfectly.
Fortunately we live in a rural area and have found several channels that are as good as private communication frequencies. Except for when we’re using them, they remain totally silent. Audio quality is excellent and the range of volume control is such that at maximum volume I can just hear enough to know when Mom is trying to call me even when using a power lawn mower or other gas-powered yard care equipment (even when wearing ear plugs.)
Once again, Amazon’s price was unbeatable because they qualified for SuperSaver Shipping .. altho I had to buy 2 pairs to meet the requirments. I’m very happy to have what amounts to a spare pair for only a few dollars more than a single pair plus paid shipping. Even without the shipping, the price is very competitive and better than I was able to find on eBay and other sites.
Thanks Amazon.com!
